Chrysler Repair: 92 Lebaron:Trans fault code 41, solenoid pack, code 41

Question
Hello. My daughter has a 92 Lebaron and at random times, it will not shift up.  We have taken it to the transmission shop and have already spent $700 trying to figure out what is wrong.  Code 41 keeps popping up, but we are not sure what that means or how to fix it.  HELP!!!

Answer
Hi Rob,
I wonder what they did to charge $700 to try to diagnose?
The manual is clear that the issue is the low-reverse clutch's solenoid nut responding when periodically tested which then puts the trans in "limp-in" mode in order to minimize any damage. There is one wire, light blue, that connects the solenoid located inside the solenoid pack on pin 7 of its 8-pin plug at the trans solenoid pack to pin 20 of the trans controller's plug. If that is patent, then chances are good that the problem is a failed low-reverse solenoid. The solenoid/pressure switch 'pack' is generally replaced rather than taken apart to repair it. Fortunately it is external, held in place by 3 bolts and thus is a quick replacement. I would show this response to the shop, have them test the wire, and then if that 'passes' replace the solenoid pack...all at NO additional labor cost. Or you can do it yourself and shop around for the best price on the 'pack'. Let me know if you want to do that.
Please read the PS below.
Thanks,
Roland
