Chrysler Repair: 92 LeBaron: No turn signal flashing, spark plug wire, labron

Question
QUESTION: Hi I was reading this some of the post on here about the 92 Labron not stating. I have a 92 Labaron 3.0 that I just changed the water pump in. Along the way I had to remove the timeing belt to install the new pump, and thats were my trouble started.
the car had always started right up no mater the weather, and when i test started it after the timing belt was back on it started right up. but I had forgotton to tightion the tensioner bolt and the belt came off messing up my timing. so I lined up the distributor with the number one plug and set up the sprokets to the timing marks and im getting spark as well as gas. please forgive my spelling and grammer.Anyway I think I may have done somthing wrong when i pulled the distributor to set it to the number one plug. I dont know if the two cams have to be at a certin in or out postion when they are lined up to the marks. when i try to start it now it cranks over and seems like it wants to start and backfires a little, but wont start. like I said all the marks are alined and the pistion is at TDC. Any advice you can give would be great.

ANSWER: Hi Lloyd,
Are you aware of the rotational 'displacement' built-in to the distributor cap? The interior contacts are not directly connected to the spark plug wire sockets above them! The tip of the rotor should be facing exactly toward the rear of the engine not toward the no. 1 apark plug tower when the engine is at TDC for the no. 1 cylinder and of course the cam sprocket are both also lined up properly. So if that is the case (all three timing marks aligned) you need to remove the distributor and reset it in place so that the rotor points 90 degrees counter-clockwise from the no. 1 spark plug tower, i.e. direct in line with the axis of the engine and pointing toward the rear of the engine.
This may be the reason for the no start.
Please "rate/nominate" this answer/me (see the PS below).
Thanks,
Roland

QUESTION: thanks for getting back to me so fast Roland. I always thought the rotor had to face the number one plug when its TDC. I will try that first thing in the morning. I do have another problem u might be able to help me with. when Bought the car last year we noticed it had no signal flasher working. I replaced almost every relay box i could think of and still no blinkers. a friend of mine said it cant be fixed without taking out the digital dash and replacing it with a analog dash. this is hard to believe. all the other lights work fine. Id like to put some money in this car and get her on the read again.so any advice you have for my flashers would be awesome. Thanks in advance Lloyd

Answer
Hi Lloyd.
Yes, that is the only distributor cap like that I have ever seen. The purpose  was to arrange the spark plug wires neatly to the left and right cylinder banks and the only way to do that was to scramble the connection between the interior contacts and the exterior plug wire towers, internally inside the distributor cap.
I assume this is a J-body LeBaron coupe or convertible. About the flashers, fuse # 6 is what powers them, in the under the dash fuse box. While the circuit for them is complex, the combination flasher unit itself is conventional and is yellow in color, under the dash, to the right of the steering column and is plugged into a black socket that is clipped to an HVAC air distribution duct. So start by checking the fuse and replacing the flasher.
If you would be so kind as to 'thank/rate' me and give a 'yes' answer to the question about a nomination of me to be volunteer of the month here at Allexperts I would be most appreciative. You can do that twice, once for each of these answers!
