Chrysler Repair: Wiper arm adjustment: 97 T&C LXi, pivot points, compromise position

QUESTION: Hello,
I replaced the wiper motor but did not apparently reset the linkage correctly. The passenger side wiper is working properly but the drivers side does not not park at the bottom of the windshield, it is up about 3-4 inches. It wipes all the way to the left goes down to the bottom comes up a bit then parks. Do you have a diagram or photo of the correct linkage alignment?

ANSWER: Hi Juan,
The park position of each arm is adjustable by means of choosing the location of the arm socket on the knurled end of the arm pivot. I would suggest that you:
Disengage the clip at the end of the wiper arm cover that attaches it to the arm, lift arm cap upward so as to reveal the nut that holds the arm to the pivot.
Remove nut holding wiper arm to pivot.
Try to gently rock the arm off the pivot. If that doesn't work you may need to buy a small two-jaw puller to extract the arm off the pivot.
Reposition the arm on the pivot so that is it parked about 6 cm above the right arm when in the parked position.
Then wet the windshield and put the system back in motion and see where it wipes and parks. There is no other adjustment for the wiper arm positioning than that. If it is unsatisfactory then there may be too much wear in the linkage joints between the wiper motor and the pivot points which can be corrected by replacing the linkages as necessary. But usually you can reach a compromise position of the wiper arm/pivot to give you satisfactory wiping area and parking position.

QUESTION: Hello Roland,
I've tried that, but the arm crashes into the cowl because it strokes down past the park position and then comes up to the park position. I think the problem is between the linkage and the motor, the motion is not starting from the correct position. There is a similar knurled joint and nut where the linkage attaches to the motor. I did check the linkage and even though it is not new (130,000 miles) there is no apparent damage or hesitation in the motion.

Hi Juan,
It may very well be that the similar knurled joint and nut where the linkage attaches to the motor is improperly positioned. The manual says not to remove that attachment point which suggests that it is positioned properly when the motor is manufactured. So nonetheless, it may be necessary to remove the nut and reposition the short arm that connect the motor to the linkage in order to get a proper movement range of the two wiper arms. I see no other possible adjustments nor are there any specifics about how to make the adjustment that I am now suggesting that you try to make. So it may require some experimentation. I wish there were more I could tell you but this is exactly as much as is given in the shop manual.
