Chrysler Repair: 99 Chrysler LHS Blower motor stays on, blower motor resistor, 99 chrysler lhs

Question
QUESTION: on 5/8/09 I had the blower motor resistor replaced by Village Chrysler Dodge Painesville OH for the problem of having the blower motor run at high all the time. New module was put in and worked fine.  Today the same problem has again popped up. Blower motor runs at high, even if the system is in "off" position. Suggestions please?

ANSWER: Hi John,
It is most likely the resistor block again being blown. You might wish to drop the blower motor down from the underside of the right hand end of the HVAC box and lubricating the bearing of the motor and then replace the resistor. They are located close together and should not be difficult to do.

QUESTION: Thanks. Not mechanically inclined but can follow directions, tell me how to do what you suggested?

Answer
Hi John,
On the right side of the dash there is combo duct/noise silencer that runs across the lower edge. Remove it by releasing the fasteners at the far right end (center tab lift up) and then manoeuver the left end of duct off of the air distribution outlet. The HVAC unit is now more visible. The right hand end has a round housing when seen from below which is the blower. The wire that comes out of the blower goes right to the resistor block. Remove the plug at the block and the 2 screws that hold it at the front of the housing and the resistor pulls out for replacement. It may be that the blower bearing is dry and so is causing more current to spin it which then overburdens the block. So if you want you could drop the motor/blower by removing the screws that surround the lower round part of it and then you can put a drop of oil on the shaft of the motor as seen from the top side of it. Reassemble and you are back in business.
