Chrysler Repair: 87 no start V-8, oil filler cap, valve train

Question
its a LA small block 5.2 (L)318 V8.... I'll check the belt! I dont understand how I wake up,and my car not start??? thanx

Answer
Thanks for the clarification. That engine doesn't have a timing belt, but rather a timing chain which is less likely to break than a belt. It also is not easy to inspect. So take a look in the oil filler cap and have a helper crank it over while you watch for movement of the valve train by looking through the opening.  Or better yet see simply verify that the rotor in the distributor turns as you crank the engine over. If that seems to be ok, then I am at a handicap to interpret the source of the noise by not being able to hear and get some idea of where it is coming from.
