Chrysler Repair: Refill coolant: 2.7L, 3.2L, 3.5L engines LH body, head gasket leak, chrysler concorde

Question
QUESTION: I have a 2000 chrysler concorde lxi, it has a 3.2L engine, out of the blue yesterday my car started overheating and smoking. I let it cool off then added coolant but that didnt work, i started driving and the temperature shot up again. Please help and could you please tell me where the overflow hose on the reservoir is suppose to lead to and add a pic if possible

ANSWER: If by smoking you mean that white smoke was coming out the tail pipe, then that is a clear sign that there is a head gasket leak on one side of the engine such that coolant is getting into a combustion chamber and coming out the tail pipe as steam. Is that what you mean?
The hose on the bottle is an external connection between the two sides of the bottle (one is for overflow the other is the pressure chamber. the hose connects just below the filler cap.

QUESTION: It was smoking under the hood from where the coolant was squirting out a small hole on the reservoir, we used the alldata system to look up the reservoir n the hole is suppose to be there and you was right about the hose, yesterday my dad added alot of water to ther car and now its running fine without overheating, you think the problem may be fixed? He thinks maybe there was air in there somehow.

Answer
Hi Greg,
If one of the hose connections at the bottle came off anything could happen. Lets just watch the situation and see how it goes in the future. There could have been air trapped in the cooling system which might have started the problem.
Whenever you drain the system and refill it you do have to bleed air out of it from a nipple/valve located on the front of the engine (lower intake manifold, left of center). You put a 1/4" hose on that nipple which is about 4' in length and route it to a container for collection and reuse, then you open the valve, then you temporarily clamp the hose on the bottom of the refill bottle, then add coolant to the system into the pressure chamber side of the bottle until fluid comes out the hose and is collected, then you squeeze on the upper radiator hose while the fluid is still coming out the collection hose to get any remaining air out and thru the hose, then you close the valve and remove the collection hose from the nipple. Then you fill the bottle to the line, and remove the clamp from the small hose at the bottom of the bottle.
