Chrysler Repair: 2000 Dodge Intrepid 2.7L A/C Heat problem, rear window defroster, compressor clutch

Question
I disconnected the battery to change my thermostat.  When I hooked it back up, the A/C, heater and rear defroster didn't operate properly.  I think the ignition may have been in the accessory position with the A/C on when I hooked up the battery.  It was sorta strange because the horn honked and the wipers started and ran until I disconnected the battery again.  The indicator lights for the compressor and rear window defroster do not come on.  The A/C starts on front vents and then goes to defrost vent and stays there.  If you turn the mode control knob, cool air comes out where there's icons.  At the dots between the icons, the heat comes on through the defrost vent.  The temperature control knob has no affect on temperature.  It appears that the compressor clutch is coming on and stays on regardless of what the temperature control knob is set on.  I checked all of the fuses under the hood as well as by the dash (including no. 17).  All Ohm good.  I swapped the relay under the hood for AC/clutch with another identical and no results.  Help!

Thanks,

James

Answer
Hi James,
Try disconnecting the battery - post clamp and touching to the + post clamp for a minute, then reconnect it to the - post. That will zero out any false info in the digital system.
Then see if that helped. If not, then do a diagnostic test/calibration of your manual control type unit:
Start the engine and have it idling
Turn on the fan to any speed
Set temp knob to full cold
Set mode know to defrost postion
A/C can be either on or off
Press and hold the rear window defrost button until "AC00" appears in the odometer window of the cluster
The BCM will chime once and the AC control button will start to blink
Release the rear window defrost button
Wait until the AC control button stops blinking
The cluster will display any fault codes by showing AC followed by 2-digit numbers
If none show, then the unit will just return to normal operation.
If a fault code appears, then press the AC button again to display addition code, etc. When odometer returns to mileage the readout is over.
Let me know any fault codes and whether there has been any improvement.
