Chrysler Repair: LX body (300/Charger) dome light wont work, manual roland, headlamp switch

Question
QUESTION: I purchased a 2007 Charger (Police persuit packge) and want to enable the dome lights when the door opens.  The specs say this is deactivated which to me indicates that they should be able to be reactivated.

the dome lights turn on with the switch and the dash shows when the doors are open so everthing should work but some how they are deactivated... can you assistm me?

Thanks in advance.

ANSWER: Hi Mitch,
Have you checked the owner's manual? That kind of 'adjusting' to your needs is often shown there, and surprisingly isn't discussed in the shop manual.

PS Sorry for the delay but I just found your question in the 'pool' to which it had been referred by Kevin.

QUESTION: it aint in the owner's manual (I've checked)... it has to be in the computer and should be able to be "reactivated"   do i have to take to dealer to hook to computer?

ANSWER: Hi Mitch,
I checked the interior lighting wiring diagrams for '06 and I think I have the answer. Part of the headlamp switch, separate from the headlamp controls proper, there appears to be a 5 position interior lighting switch which is listed as follows: 0=off, 1= dome defeat. 2= funeral, 3= dome on, 4=cargo. I suspect that what you thought was the 'Off' position is actually the dome defeat position, so turn the switch back one position to get to true 'off' and I suspect the dome will work in that position. Please let me know. I suspect that is explained in the manual if you look up the section on interior light control switch.

QUESTION: This is a 2007 Charger with the Police Persuit Package (I bought from NC State Police Surplus).  The Police Persuit Package comes from the factory with the door dome defeated (it is deactivated from the factory).

I have tried every position on the headlamp control switches... it is not a matter of the switch is off or something simple.  This was set from the factory as part of the police package and I now want to fix back to the way it would work normally in a civilian car (i.e. the dome lights come on when the door is opened).

Is this possible for me to do by myself? and if so how?
or am I going to have to take to the dealer and have them reprogram the computer?

Answer
Hi Mitch,
In the absence of any specific information about the way the 'defeat' was engineered into that Package, I can only suggest that you speak to the dealer about this matter. Out of curiosity, how many positions are there for that interior lighting control switch which I described to you? If there are 5, is there and difference in the behavior of 0 and 1 postions?
The switch consists of a series of resistors which vary a voltage signal to the body controller so it may well be that the option 1 (dome defeat) is 'hard wired' by means of a different switch or it could be that the switch is unchanged but there is a different programming of the identical body control module, or the 'Package' vehicle may have a different body control module. The Parts Department might be able to tell you about which of the three approaches applies to your vehicle.
