Chrysler Repair: Knocking in engine: 3.0L valve adjusters, lebaron gtc, hydraulic lifters

Question
We have a 1994 Lebaron GTC 3L V-6.  It is making a knocking noise and hubby thinks it's the lifters. We are going to work on it but need to know the "gap" for the rockers. Can you help us? Also any other suggestions? It has 126K miles and other than the tapping works well.  BTW - thanks for the tip on the hydraulic motor for the convertible. That's also on our list.

Answer
Hi Alysa,
The hydraulic lifters have no 'gap' as such, they auto adjust. You do check the auto aduster for free play inserting a fine wire thru the air  bleed hole and the very gently press down on the internal ball check. While holding the check ball down move the rocker up and down to check for free play. If there is no free play you replace the adjuster. Remember to press down VERY LIGHTLY ONLY on the ball check.
