Chrysler Repair: egr 1999 chrylser sebring 2.5 v6, chrylser, wd40

Question
Hi Roland,

I asked question before chysler sebring not restarting after car sits 15 minutes you said spray WD40 EGR.  The other day I looked for EGR in back behind engine sprayed wd40 with long straw extension on what I thought was EGR.  It was very hard to reach I did not see Any parts that move. I sprayed wd40 on round circular metal object & black tube that went in it.  I drove the car went in store would not start for 20 minutes. I resprayed some more around same general area.  What does EGR look like?

Weeks ago I took car to advance auto they ran check it came up EGR code.  They said it costs about $88.00 & would have to pre order it.  It does not look like something I could reach he pointed to back of engine

The service engine light is on.  Will spraying the EGR get the service engine light off?

car has 97,000 miles I baby the car always garaged park it in shade but might want to sell before 100,000 mile nobody is going to want to buy a car with the service engine light.

Roland can you please tell me where egr is I not sure if even sprayed it right please let me know

Answer
Hi Michael,
The upper hose of the round object you were spraying, assuming that is the efg solenoid located directly under the oil cap, goes directly to the egr valve. Simply follow that upper hose to the valve which is located near to the thermostat housing and is attached to the intake manifold. Look between its round top of the egr where the hose attaches, and the valve body proper where you will see a flange. Inside the flange is the valve stem, a rod with a slot that goes around the circumfence of the stem. Put the tip of a screwdriver in the slot and move the stem back and forth, against spring-action in one direction that tries to close it. Then spray the stem where it enters the body of the valve and move the stem some more to free up the action.
