Chrysler Repair: Alternator Pivot Bolt: 2.5L on Sebring Convt, sebring conv, pivot bolt

Question
Kevin,
I have a 1999 Sebring JXI Convertible with the 2.5 Mitsubishi engine.  I am having an impossible time trying to access the Pivot Bolt located at the bottom of the Alternator.  There is no way to access it from the top.  I cannot get a clear shot at it with a ratchet because the Oil Filter and the Dip Stick are in the way.
I've already removed the belt and the top bolt.  What do you suggest to get at it?? Thanks

Answer
Hi Pete,
Both the '98 and '00 manuals show the same procedure. After loosening the top mounting ear bolt. Loosen but don't remove the pivot bolt. Loosen the adjusting bolt on the idler so as to be able to remove the drive belt (lock nut on the idler shaft, adjusting bolt on the front of the pivot).
You then it says can remove the pivot bolt being careful not to loose the spacer. Remove the top pivot bolt. Finally remove upper generator bracket. Instll is the reverse. The large bolt are torqued to 40 foot-pounds.
I hope this helps.
Roland
PS Sorry for the delay but I just found your question if the "pool" to which it had been referred by Kevin. Please use the "thank/rate" tab to rate my answer and where you see the question about a nomination of me to be 'volunteer of the month' consider giving a 'yes' response. Thank you.
