Chrysler Repair: 07 Sebring Recirc door clicking, chrysler sebring touring, 2007 chrysler sebring

Question
I have a 2007 Chrysler Sebring Touring Sedan (2.7L) with a strange problem. When I press the A/C button to close the recirc door, the door closes but the motor does not stop for several seconds after the door has closed. This causes the plastic parts on the door actuator to "click" as it keeps rotating past the normal stopping point several times. This only happens when closing the door - when going from closed to open, the door operates normally. The click is loud enough that you can hear it outside of the car while the engine is running. I have removed the glove compartment and the door to the A/C plenum and watched this firsthand, but I have no idea what to do from there. How can this be fixed?

Answer
Hi Ken,
It appears to me that the only way to fix this is to remove the recirc door actuator and adjust the position of the door gear to the actuator gear so that the range of motion is centered. Unfortunately the '06 manual appears to suggest that the instrument panel has to be removed to do that simple adjustment. So you would need to weigh the risk of a problem arrising by removing the instrument panel as compared to the benefit of doing the adjustment. Let me know if you want the instructions for removing the panel. The actuator has only 3 screws to remove it and make the adjustment.
