Chrysler Repair: 2002 PT CRUISER, crankshaft position sensor, voluteer

Question
I HAVE A 2002 PT CRUISER THE PROBLEM IS  IT STARTS AND RUNS UNTIL IT REACHES OPERATING TEMP. THEN IT STARTS MISSING AND DIES. IT WILL RESTART AFTER SETTING FOR A FEW MINUTES BUT REPEATS THE SAME THING.  IT IS A 4 CYLINDER ENGINE . NOT TURBO. HAVE REPLACED THE COIL, WIRES , PLUGS, AND FUEL PUMP. STILL THE SAME.IT SHOWS NO CODES. WHAT COULD IT BE.

Answer
Hi Janice,
That sort of behavior, particularly if it will start again after maybe 15-45 minutes, is  often due to a failing camshaft or crankshaft position sensor. It would be very helpful to have a code however so as to verify which one it is. Do you have or can you get access to a voltmeter? If so I can describe how to test the sensors when the engine has died and that will tell us whether this is indeed the cause. How are you getting the codes? Via the ignition key, and if so does the odometer window show anything other than the mileage, such as 'done', when you do the key on- off-on-off-on and leave on in 5 seconds or less? Or was a plug-in code reader used? Let me know the answers to these questions.
