Chrysler Repair: 99 lhs interior lights keep staying on, 1999 chrysler lhs, push button switch

Question
my 1999 chrysler LHS interior lights keep staying on and the doors are tightly clossed whats the problem?

Answer
Hi Jacob,
If you mean they stay 'on' beyond the 30 second delay that is built into the system then something is wrong. It also could be that the remote keyless entry system is malfunctioning because it also can turn on the interior lights. So consider if those might explain it. Otherwise, this is going to be tricky to diagnose. If you want to turn off all the interior lights until it is corrected you can remove fuse 19 in the box that is located behind the end cap of the left end of the dash.
The lights are turned on by the body computer which closes the lighting circuit and turns on the lights when a front door is opened, and perhaps there is an interior light request switch on the instrument panel which may have been turned 'on' unknowingly? Check the owner's manual to see if that might be part of the headlamp switch or not, because I don't locate it in the wiring diagrams. Let me know if that is the case and where that control switch is located, please.
So if that manual control switch is not the issue, then the problem is that one of the door ajar switches is falsely telling the body control that it is open. Have you looked for a spring-loaded push button switch on the front door frame? Do you have a volt-ohm meter or continutiy tester? If you do, then I can tell you where to do some measurements to locate where the false request for interior lights is happening.
Another approach may be to see if the memory of the body computer has noticed the problem and stored a fault code. If you readout that memory with a code reader it may tell you what it thinks is wrong. It may be that a nationwide autoparts store will give you a free readout (try an Autozone store). I am not certain that their reader will access the body computer but give that a try.
I will await your answers to the above questions.
