Chrysler Repair: a/c, compressor clutch, expansion device

Question
Hello I have a question about a 1996 dodge ram 4 wheel drive 318. The compressor for the a/c kicks in and out alot when the clip is attached to the accumulator, when i take accumaltor electrical clip off and jump it with a wire and add refrigerant it takes all off it and blows nice and cold, i added one can of 134a with the dye in it and i couldnt find any visible dye on the lines or compressor.. is that normal for the compressor clutch to keep kicking in and out like that? last year it worked for 2 months really good then just quit blowing cold im startin to think its something with evaporator or expansion device and also all the refrigerant was gone from last year, theres also an orfice in the low side line by the condenser i just replaced... id appreciate some advice, also i didnt pull a vaccum on it because i couldnt afford it at the moment.

Answer
Hi Kristopher,
One can of refrigerant may not be enough because the capacity is in the range of 34 oz. for a minivan unit. You may have to search for the leak with a leak detection tool. I'm not an expert in AC but so that is an amateur evaluation. Best of luck.
