Chrysler Repair: power steering belt: 2.5L V-6, pivot bolt, o clock

Question
how do i get the power steering belt off on 98 cirrus 2.5l

Answer
Hi Ron,
The pump has 3 bolts, one around which its position pivots, and 2 adjusting slot bolts. The pivot bolt is accessed from above, and is located at about 1 o'clock as viewed from the front of the pump. The best way to do all this is to jack up the front right wheel, remove the wheel and then remove the splash shield between the wheel well and the engine compartment which is held in place by several screws and push-pins (lift the center tab to release these). Then loosen the pivot bolt. Then loosen the two adjusting slot bolts: one is at 5 o'clock as viewed from the front of the pump, and one is on back of pump at about 6 o'clock. That will allow you to rotate the pump to loosen the tension on the old belt. Install the new belt. You will see a 1/2 square hole just above the front side adjusting slot bolt into which you insert a 1/2" drive handle and use that to torque the pump so as to tension the belt. While holding it under tension tighten both the slot bolts, then tighten the pivot bolt. The tension on the belt if you have a gauge is 130 pounds for a new belt, 80 for a used belt. Then reinstall the splash shield.
