Chrysler Repair: Transmission shifter stuck (floor shift): LH car, 2000 chrysler lhs, chrysler lhs

Question
The transmission floor shifter will not move to put it in any gear. it feels as if the cable is stuck, jammed or something or the linkage on the transmission is jammed. Any suggestions on what to do. By the way it is a 2000 Chrysler LHS 3.5.

Answer
Hi Tommy,
I have a '98 service manual that shows the system which involves an interlock cable between the ignition key lock cylinder on the steering column and the floor shifter. There is probably a maladjustment of that cable such that it isn't releasing the shifter lock so as to allow the shifter to move. It may be just an adjustment or it might need to have a part replaced and the manual shows both possibilities. I also have the '04 manual on a CD and that shows a somewhat different set up in that the interlock system also requires that you have your foot on the brake in order to shift into gear. Do you know whether your '00 has that requirement?
In either case, please send me a follow-up question but click on the 'private' option. Then in the text area tell me both your postal mailing address and you email address. Then whichever manual's pages I need to do I will have them.
