Could this be the relay or possibly bad temp sensor

Hi Mickey,
It could be either one or a flaky wiring situation. What is the temp gauge showing to be the need for the fan? The fan relay during the latter 90's was problemmatic so that is a distinct possibility enen in the '02 year. But I would be inclined to wait until it fails entirely, or do some circuit testing now to assess why it is intermittent. The temp sensor is more likely to be stable rather than on again/off again. It could be off-value however but that would provoke a brief off kind of problem you describe. More likely would be the relay.
