Chrysler Repair: 2004 crysler sebring 2.4L, crysler sebring, air conditioner compressor

Question
My car won't start.  I turned the ignition and it only makes a loud clicking noise.  I removed the starter and had it checked out.  It is fine.  What else should I be looking at?

Answer
How and where was the starter checked out? Was it load tested or just free wheeled? It kinda makes a difference. Most good parts houses, such as NAPA, test the starters pretty thoroughly. And they would like nothing better than to find something wrong in order to sell you a new unit. With that said, if the starter was thoroughly tested and it was OK, then the next step would be to check the battery to make sure it has enough cranking amps to turn the motor. Should the battery be OK, the next step would be to check the battery cables. The starter requires a good connection not only on the positive connection but also on the ground side. Verify that all main connections are clean and tight. Should all the above check out OK then it's time to see if the motor can be rotated by hand to check if something has seized up. It could be the motor itself or one of the belt driven accessories. Generator, power steering pump or even the air conditioner compressor.
