Chrysler Repair: T and C 07: starter problem, solenoid switch, chrysler tc

Question
Hello,

I have problem with the ignition.  It won't turn over but the battery is not dead.  Everything on dash lights up and makes a noise but won't turn over.  It will eventually work.  This happens in spurts and then it works fine for a long time.  Whenever I have taken it to dealer or other mechanic it is working and they can't find the problem.  I think the problem is that I bought a Chrysler TC but gotta deal with it now.  It has 50K miles on it!  Please help

Answer
Hi Lisa,
Are you saying that the starter motor won't crank the engine but that you do hear a fairly loud click nonetheless? If that is the case then I would believe that either the starter solenoid switch is flakey, the brushes on the starter motor are worn, or that the battery is weak or the wire from the battery directly to the motor is not clean/tight connected at both ends. Let me know if this is not what is happening. I would start by cleaning the battery terminals. Disconnect the - clamp first, then the + and reconnect + first, then finally the - clamp.
