Chrysler Repair: tranny not shifting, reputable repair shop, transmission shops

Question
QUESTION: my 91 lebaron with a 3.0 v6 is not shifting , why ?

ANSWER: Without knowing which transmission you have in the vehicle, it'll be difficult at best to answer your question. For now I'll assume you have a 4 speed electronic transmission. Your problem is that the transmission controller has detected a problem in the transmission and has put the transmission in what is called "LIMP IN" mode. This will give you 1 gear forward and reverse. This will enable you to get the car to a repair facility. Hope this helps in some way.

QUESTION: I had the tranny scanned and the error code they gave me was 43   O D circuit falure. What does that mean and do you think the speed sensor could be the problem ? Also where is the sensor located ? It is a 3 speed tranny with overdrive.

Answer
It is possible that a failing speed sensor, of which there are two, input and output, could cause your transmission not shift. The only way to check them is to use a scan tool that can read their signal values. All transmission shops and good repair shops have the scan tool needed. The error code for the OD solenoid indicates that the solenoid is not responding to activation requests from the TCM, Which will in turn will cause the TCM to put the transmission in "LIMP IN" mode whenever OD is requested. I'd advise you to take the car to a reputable repair shop for a thorough diagnosis.
