Chrysler Repair: 99 LHS: A/C Compressor, compressor clutch, oil mixture

Question
Hi Roland
I just recently had an a/c recharged done. But after receiving this service the compressor clutch would not come on. We checked related fuses & all checked out fine. We then jumped the compressor from the relay & it kicked on effortlessly and worked great. We were thinking it was because of the ATC head so then I went home were I had an extra & replaced it but had the same results. I then started to jump it through the relay again then after letting it run like that for about 15 sec then I would quickly remove the wire & put the relay back in & notice that the a/c clutch would be spinning but it seemed restricted then it soon stopped. I continued to do this a few times with same results. I am confused to what this could be. The compressor is full of freon, I know its receiving power, & I know my relay works.
Thank you for all input.

Answer
Hi Marvin,
Was the recharge done at a competent AC shop? Are you sure you aren't low or high on refrigerant? The capacity of the system is 28 oz.
When you say the a/c clutch stopped after seeming restricted does it seem like the clutch is weak or just laboring due to excessive drag of the compressor?
What about the amount of lubricant in the system? If you lost a great deal of refrigerant or changed out a component then you have to take into account the loss of lubricant and add that back into the unit. The seeming restriction may mean you have too little oil mixed in with the refrigerant. Either by reviewing the history of the system and its recent service or by removal  of the fluid and measuring the actual oil mixture amount you may assess whether that could be the cause.
The fill level and the lubrication situation seem to me to be what I would assess first. The oil capacity is 5 oz. of ND 8 PAG.
