Chrysler Repair: 1998 Plymouth Voyager:head lamps/interior lamps/HVAC LED flashing, 1998 plymouth voyager, plymouth voyager

Question
My interior lights stay on, my headlights stay on. My van has trouble starting. The lights on the dash such as a/c, defrost on continuously flicker. Also the remote key if used triggers the lights inside and out to come on and stay on. All of these problems started at the same time. I have unhooked the battery and rehooked it up and it worked fine for awhile. Also bought new battery. I pull the fuses to keep the lights off until needed. Any idea as to what may be wrong and what I should check next?

Answer
Hi Jimmie,
There are relays that control the interior lights, the high beam lamps and the low beam lamps and it could be that two of those three relays are stuck in the on position. The interior relay is in the box under the dash, the head lamp relays are in the box under the hood. You could try removing the relays one at a time when you have the problems and try substituting another relay with the same part number to see if the problem is solved. If not, then I would suspect that the headlamp switch, which also control the lighting that is giving you problems has a short circuit of two of the circuits to ground (which is the way it activates the lights when requested, but shouldn't do so when not requested). You could remove the two plugs on the headlamp switch to see if that solves the problem and if so then change out that switch.
The flashing lights on the ac/heat unit say that there may be something wrong with the controls that need attention. Try the follwing:
warm up the engine and have it idling, then
set blower on high, set the are distribution to the instrument panel position, open all AC outlets, set temp to cold, then
depress simultaneously the WASH and the REAR Wiper buttons and hold them for 5 seconds, then release. Then all the lights will go on, and then rear wipe and intermittent will alternaively flash, the recirc and A/C will alternatively flash, and if everything is fine then the rear wipe will be the only one flashing. If that is the case push the rear wipe to exit the process.
If more than the rear wipe flashes after all is done, count the flashes that are occuring on the wipe and intermittent wipe buttons.

PS Sorry for the delay but I just found your question in the 'pool' to which Kevin had referred it.
