Chrysler Repair: p0740, tcc solenoid, pcm reset

Question
my cousin has a 02 Ram the p0740 code came on and I put the new tcc solinoid in and disconnected the btry for 30 min cleared code and stay off for a week then came back on is there still a problem or do I need to take to Dodge to have the pcm reset and do a tranmission relearn.

Answer
Hi Colin
As best I can tell from the manuals, that 0740 code is most likely due to an internal failure of the hydraulic pump or the torque converter itself.  The only other possible cause is the torque converter lock-up accumulator diameter (located in the valve body) may be out of spec...this is called 'possible but unlikely'. I don't see anything about a PCM reset or a transmission relearn being helpful in the resolution of this code. If there were a TCM  software upgrade that would be relevant to try. Maybe the next thing to check would be the hydraulic pressures so as to determine whether the pump is the problem or not. I don't picture a tcc solenoid which is replaceable on this transmission, could you explain where it is located and what you did to replace it? Thanks
Roland
PS Thanks for the rating and nomination. One other suggestion would be to verify for sure that the only code is the 0740 because if there were also an 0750 or 0841 then those would take priority and might be resolved without removing the transmission. Did you get the 0740 with a diagnostic reader or by the key/cluster method?
