Chrysler Repair: 92 dodge dakota 3.9L V-6: no start, flash pause, dodge dakota

Question
should i have 12vlts at coil with key in on position.
there is no spark at coil i replaced coil truck ran and then died

Answer
Hi Dean,
There will only be 12V on the coil when you are cranking it over and when the engine is running on its own. When the engine is not turning over the autoshutdown relay kill the power to the coil and to the fuel pump for fire safety purposes.
I would suggest that you try for a fault code readout via the ignition key:"on-off-on-off-on and leave on" doing that in 5 seconds or less elapsed time. Then watch the check engine light, which remains 'on', to begin to see it flash, pause, flash, etc. Count the number of flashes before each pause. Then repeat the process to be sure that you have an accurate set of flash counts. Then tell me what they are and we'll go from there.
