Chrysler Repair: 99 Sebring Trip Computer: CCD code, fuse box, pink wire

Question
QUESTION: The trip computer in my '99 Sebring convertible 'resets' approximately once a week.
When this happens, the compass displays CAL, the distance to empty goes to 9999 and the ODO displays 0000. I drive in circles to reset the compass and I press the two buttons to reset the rest of the data and it's good for another week. I will do that diagnostic check before I reset it next time it happens. Is it easy to remove the bezel?
Thanks,
Bill

ANSWER: Hi Bill,
The trip computer can be removed by removing the cluster bezel:
remove left end-cap from the dash
lower the steering column
remove the center bezel that surrounds the radio and heater control (pull out gently from retaining clips)
the instrument cluster hood is then removed by
removing the 3 screwe revealed after removing center bezel
remove screw at left end of hood revealed be removing the end cap
then pull the hood back about 3" and reach through radio opening to disconnect the plug from the trip computer
then remove the hood the rest of the way.
I wonder if the ignition off draw fuse #5 in the dash fuse box might be either flaky (cracked internal wire) or the pink wire from it to pin 7 of the computer might be loose, as loss of that power line might be causing the problem you describe.

QUESTION: Timing is everything. The car was OK 2 days ago when I parked it. After clearing he snow I started it up and the compass said cal. I turned it off, pressed the 2 buttons and turned the key to on. It displayed CCD! Tried it again with the same results.
I'm going to calibrate the compass, clear the trip computer data and check again. Tomorrow I will check for codes. Hey, this may be something that can be fixed.
Thanks,
Bill

Answer
Hi Bill,
Yes, it could be that one of the twisted pair of wires that run from the instrument cluster to the trip computer has a flaky connection (cold solder joint at the plug pin/circuit board interface). So take a look at pins 3 and 4 of the blue plug at the cluster and at pins 1 and 2 at the trip computer where these ccd wires are connected. You may simply have to reheat the solder joint at one of those 4 pins to correct the problem.
