Chrysler Repair: 2002 pt cruiser: broken timing belt, proper alignment, straight answer

Question
Roland

I talked to you the other day about my mothers 02 pt cruiser. I found out that the timing belt broke. She was traveling about 55 to 60 miles per hour when it broke and car just died. Did this do damage to the Valves or not, i have read a lot of posts that it does and some say no. I need a straight answer. If maybe how can i tell if they are bent with out taking off the head. I really appreciate your help and knowledge. Thank you.

Answer
You will be able to tell damaged valve/pistons by putting on a new timing belt and with proper alignment of the timing marks, and then test each cylinder for compression. It will either be good on all cylinders or not. Other than that it means removing the cylinder head to inspect visually. Please tell me the size of the engine as this is very specifically important for me to know.

Please 'rate' my answer, and where you see the question about 'volunteer of the month' consider giving a 'yes'. Thank you.
