Chrysler Repair: 98 Chrysler T&C: no headlamps/tail or cluster lamps, headlamp switch, electronic circuit board

Question
Recently had cam seals changed in the engine. When we got it back the headlights and tailights and dashlights were not working. i have checked the fuses, relays.  The headlights will come on when you pull the dimmer lever.  What can I check next? Ive tried everything I know.

Answer
Hi Bill,
The dimmer switch is probably working because it is simply 'flashing' the high beams directly by its action of grounding the high beam relay's actuation coil. The headlamp/taillamp/cluster lamp control however depend upon the head lamp switch making a wire that is conected to the body control module become grounded, and then the body control module activates the lamp relays. I believe that the headlamp switch contacts that do the grounding are probably oxidized or mechanincally not doing the job. So I would remove the headlamp switch from the dash and check pin 3 (light green/orange wire) of the black 8-wire plug to see if it shows a short to ground when you turn the switch to the headlamp 'on' position. If not, then spray some electronic circuit board  cleaner into the interior of the switch and try exercising the switch to see if you can get it to ground pin 3. If not then the switch is bad.
To get to the switch you have to remove the instrument cluster bezel:
remove steering column cover
remove over steering column bezel
remove left end cover of dash
remove screw at left end of cluster bezel and headlamp switch
remove screwz holding cluster bezel to insturment panel from each side of steering column
disconnect clip holding cluster bezel to instrument panel from above right vent louver
separate cluster bezel from insturment panel
You then will have access to the wire in question on the headlamp switch.
