Chrysler Repair: Possible leak from going over a raised curb in a parking lot, chrysler town and country, exhaust pipes

Question
I drive a 2005 Chrysler Town and Country.  Tonight I was in an unfamiliar parking lot and went over a curb that was painted black.  I looked under my car when I got home and there is a small amount of fluid on the passenger side near the back.  I felt the metal cylinder there and it felt wet.  The fluid just looks like water.  I am worried about the possibility that I caused some kind of damage that will make the car unsafe to drive.  The part where the fluid is coming from already looks a bit rusty so maybe it always does this and I haven't looked before because I wasn't worried.

Answer
Hi Jill,
Did you wipe up a little of that fluid on a napkin and smell it to verify that it is oil and not gasoline? At the rear about the only fluid would be gasoline or brake fluid (which is more vicous than water and has a mild odor). The only significant source of water might be a leaking heater hose that runs along the right side frame rail to the rear heater core in the cabin, but it would also smell strongly from the fact that it is mixed 50/50 with anti-freeze.
You described a metal cylinder as possibly being the source. If that is a muffler (it would have a pipe coming out the rear and terminating at the rear bumper) there is a normal amount of condensation water, which occurs naturally in the exhaust pipes when a cold engine is started and run, that drains from a hole in the bottom of the cylinder which you would normally see if the car was driven a fairly short distance from its last stopping point and then cooled down at the place where you parked it. So that would be an explanation for a small puddle source of water under the rear of the car. But it would evaporate in a few hours and not continue to drip. So notice if the puddle has shrunk or is maintained by a continuing drip which would be abnormal.
So examine the fluid if there is still some present, for odor, and with a flashlight determine if it lies directly below a muffler and its small drain hole.
