Chrysler Repair: 95 Concorde coolant sensor code 22, 1995 chrysler concorde, upper radiator hose

Question
hello i have a 1995 chrysler concorde with a 3.5 liter and check engine code reads 22 wich says it is coolant sensor low voltage do you think it is the sensor or something else the eletric fans seem to run and the temp guage seems to act funny antifrezze it ful thanks alot if you can help

Answer
Hi Raymond,
It is probably the sensor, but you might also have air trapped in the top of the engine near the sensor which could cause the same code. Did you drain or refill the system recently. That may have resulted in the air being trapped. You will notice in the thermostat housing there is a nipple to which a length of 1/4" hose can be placed that is long enough to run out the front to be collected in a container for reuse. Then use a wrench to loosen the flats behind the nipple which open the bleed valve. Then slowly pour fresh coolant mixture into the overflow bottle until a steady stream of fluid come out the hose. Squeeze the upper radiator hose as well to clear any air there and add more fluid to assure no more air in the system. Close the bleeder valve and add fluid to bottle to proper level using collected fluid.
Then disconnect the battery for a few seconds to erase the 22 code. Then drive the vehicle and watch to see whether the code returns and the temp gauge is more normal. If everything is OK then the air was your problem. If not, then I would change the sensor which is next to the thermostat housing. The code is saying that the voltage of the sensor is not correct given how long the engine has been running, and that may be due to trapped air rather than a bad sensor.
