Chrysler Repair: Plymouth Reliant: died, no start, plymouth reliant, electronic sensor

Question
I was driving home when my car just quit its not the timing belt does this car have a computer  if so what type and wheres it located

Answer
Hi Vicki,
You didn't tell me the year or the specific engine, but if it is a mid to late-80's then it will have a computer but that is probably not what caused the engine to die. Rather it is probably an electronic sensor that has failed. To get a handle on what happened try using the ignition key:"on-off-on-off-on and leave on" doing that in 5 seconds or less elapsed time. Then watch the check engine light, which remains 'on', to see it begin to flash, pause, flash, etc. Count the number or flashes before each pause. Then repeat the process to be sure you can get a repeatable set of flash counts. Then tell me the counts in the order of appearance and we'll go from there.  What you will be doing is asking for the memory of the computer to tell you what is wrong by this techique. Tell me the year and the size (L) of the engine.
