Chrysler Repair: 1991 chrysler imperial abs system, rectangular array, chrysler imperial

Question
abs pump comes on and stays on as soon as i turn the key

Answer
Hi Joseph,
The abs pump is supposed to come on, but if in your experience it goes off shortly thereafter then there is an issue, particularly if the abs light stays on. If that is the case, the best way to move ahead would be to get a diagnostic fault code readout using a Chrysler DRB II or equivalent Snap-on reader that is plugged into the blue data link connector that is located under the dash to the left of the steering column. It has 6 pins in a 3 x 2 rectangular array. Seek a readout of the abs control unit memory. Let me know what comes out from the reader, and also ask the mechanic what they think the code means and what they recommend doing. We can compare notes with the manual. The fact that the pump stays on may mean that there is an inability to charge the system to the pressure level necessary for normal function. Of course this is a fail/safe design so you would at worse have brake function equivalent to that of a non-abs vehicle.
