Chrysler Repair: Blower motor only runs on high: 98 minivan, blower motor resistor, chrysler town and country

Question
The fan on my wifes 1998 Chrysler Town and Country is either Off or on High...and nothing between. Would this be the fan motor switch and if so, how to change it?

Answer
Hi Tim,
That symptom is a sign that the blower motor 'resistor block' has failed. It is the device that provides the several voltage levels to operate the intermediate and low fan speeds. You will find the block mounted at the rear of the engine compartment on the passenger side, below the wiper module just below one of the rectangular openings in the panel. You will notice a multiwire plug on the front side of it. Remove the plug by lifting the tab on the edge. Then reach into the opening and with the tip of a screwdriver press inward on a spring-clip on the driver's side edge of the device which will allow it to come forward and out of the panel into which it is mounted. It may help to first get a new one so you know what you are looking for. Make sure the resistors aren't touching oneanother, and insert it into the panel and put the plug back in place. That should restore all the fan speeds.
