Chrysler Repair: my car sticks in gear, independent shop, connector plug

Question
1993 new yorker transmission sticks in to gear but it also hesitate to speed up.

Answer
Hi Philanda,
That means that the transmission computer has detected a problem and put into limp-in mode which is designed to protect it from further damage. If you can get a readout of the memory of the transmission computer via the plug near the steering column using an OBD-I type code reader, do so and let me know the number of the code that is found. Then we can consider what is wrong based on that and decide what to due. An independent shop with an OBD-I reader that has a Chrysler data link connector plug will be able to do that. It shouldn't cost more than $40 for the readout. You could check with an Autozone parts store to see if they can do it, for free, but they may not have that type of reader.
