Chrysler Repair: 1994 Pontiac Transport

Question
Hi, I have a 94 Pontiac Transport and I just changed out the fuel pump and the fuel pump relay. I still can't get my van to fire up. I checked the inline fuel filter and it is fine also. As long as I'm spraying starting fluid in it will fire up and run but as soon as the spray stops the van does too. Could there be something else I'm overlooking? Or could it be a total different problem somewhere?

Answer
Hi Ron,
I know nothing about GM vehicles. But, do you hear the fuel pump run for about a second when you first turn the key to the 'run' position?
If not, then I wonder if the fuse that powers the water pump is blown or cracked. Otherwise, since you have spark it sounds like a mixture issue. On Chryslers you turn the key on-off-in-0ff-0n and leave on, doing that in 5 seconds or less elapsed time. That cause the check engine light to begin to flash, pause, flash, etc. You count the flashes and those are paired to form the 2-digit fault codes that give you an idea about what is wrong. So try that, and go to the Pontiac experts to find out. or ask them how to get a fault code readout using the ignition key.
