Chrysler Repair: 1998 Sebring LXI: no start, crank sensor, sebring lxi

Question
QUESTION: Roland,
I am convinced that the distributor is the culprit. as I rotate the distributor, I can hear the ASD realy clicking, and the fuel pump running, but no spark at all.I only momentarily get 12v when the key is turned on at the single plug on the distributor, not when it is turning. is there a way to check the hall effect pickup/cam sensor off the coil?
or can I test the coil itself? I tried to do a continuity test on the coil primary terminals, but all I got was infinity across the three terminals the hall effect sensor attaches to, and nothing off the secondary terminal.
Thanks again!
Ben Smith

ANSWER: You said the cluster is not digital, so do you have the code readout via the check engine light? If so, then a code 11 would say the crank sensor is the problem, while the code 54 (not to be confused with a code 55=end of readout) would say the cam sensor in the distributor is not putting out a signal. Check that and let me know what you find. I can get further into the analysis of the distributor is necessary. On-off-on-off-on and leave on, doing that in seconds or less will get you the codes that way. Repeat it to make sure you have accurate counts. 55 should always be last

QUESTION: Roland,
Yeah, this car has analog gauges and it is OBDII and the only codes we could pull were the multi cylinder misfire, and misfire cylinders 4 &6, I can't remember the code numbers off the top of my head. I'll try the key dance tomorrow as the car is at my Uncle's shop at the moment.

Answer
I don't know if the check engine light OBD-I code will come out but I would believe that it should. You can test the hall-effect/cam sensor by probing the sensor signal and sensor ground wires with pins stuck through the insulation while the 6-pin plug is still attached to the distributor. The sensor ground is on pin 1 (black/green) and the signal is on pin 3 (brown). You should see a voltage that pulses between 5 and 0.3V as you turn the engine by hand using a ratchet on the crank pulley bolt.
