Chrysler Repair: 2006 Chrysler Town & Country tailgate chime, chrysler town, electronic request

Question
I use my van as a semi-work vehicle so the the tailgate has gone up & down a fair amount in it's lifetime. Up until last week all was fine, the chime would sound anytime the gate was remotely lifted or lowered. Last week I noticed what seemed like no chiming when going up and down. As I checked further and removed the license plate trim to expose the chime, it bearly [very low sound] makes three chimes going up and stops the chiming, the tailgates continues going up.  Upon electronic request to be lowered the gate lowers fine and latches fine however there is no downward chiming. Might it be a broken wire as I found in the drivers sliding door harness or sometime in the BCM ?  I'll spend some $$$ for a correct repair but if is might get expensive I'll learn to live with the chime.

Answer
Hi Brian
It is either the chime itself that is worn out, or one of the two wires to the chime is compromised. The black/light green wire goes to chassis ground. The tan/light green wire goes to pin 18 of the larger plug at the lift gate module. The module is located under the motor for the liftgate on the left side. So if those wires check out as continuous and the tan/light green wire is not shorting to ground, then the chime is the suspect. You could remove it and apply 12v to it and see if it works.

PS Sorry for the delay but I just found your question in the 'pool' to which it had been referred by Kevin.
