Chrysler Repair: ATC out: 96 LH body, check fuse, chrysler concorde

Question
QUESTION: The ATC went out in our 96 Chrysler Concorde 3.3 liter LX.Unit has "no led" and defroster in default mode. Also gauge cluster works sometimes.I plan to replace the ATC unit.Do you think this will take care of the electrical short in the gauges? Both of these problems occured in the same time frame.

ANSWER: Hi Steve,
Check fuses 9 and 17 in the box behind the left end cap of the dash.
On the ATC: check fuse 6 similarly. Then take a look at a brown fusible link ( a wire that acts like a fuse) located on + post battery eyelet. That one feeds 12v to the ATC unit on its black 10-pin plug at pin 8 (black/pink wire). It should show 12v all the time unless the fusible link were blown.
Those are the first causes of the problems you are having.

QUESTION: Is there a possibility i wont need to buy a ATC unit?

Answer
Well, if the fuse or the fusible link is blown you will have to replace it and see if it functions normally, or if it blows again then unless there is a short in the between the fuse and the ATC then that would mean the ATC is shorting out the fuse. You might open the ATC and look for a leaking electrolytic capacitor that is blowing the fuse and replace that. So those are the possibilities.
