Chrysler Repair: 92 2,5L 4 cyl: draining and refilling the coolant system, chrysler lebaron, 1992 chrysler lebaron

Question
QUESTION: Hi, I have a 1992 Chrysler Lebaron Sedan with the 2.5L 4 cylinder engine.  I have a problem similar to the one in a previous question you had answered here is the link http://en.allexperts.com/q/Chrysler-Repair-807/2009/2/1992-LeBaron-heat-bubbling I was wondering though how do you properly refill the coolant system.  I had changed the thermostat a few days ago but the engine is still overheating and coming out of the overfill and I’m trying to come up with possible solutions to the problem.  I believe I put the thermostat replacement correctly in the housing with the copper part pointing back towards the car but in a horizontal position is that correct?

ANSWER: Hi Kris,
That positioning is correct, BUT did you refill it correctly?
You have to remove the plug on the top of the thermostat housing before you start to refill it (8mm allen head). Then you fill via the radiator until the coolant level rises high enough to fill the thermostat housing to the top. Then you put the plug back in, then you fill it the rest of the way. If you didn't do that then you have an air bubble trapped in the housing which causes the thermostat to not accurately sense the temperature of the fluid and to delay opening. So drain off and collect a couple of quarts and then refill it as I described.

QUESTION: Ok great thank you! I will do that. One last thing could you tell me how to drain the fluid out? Is there a plug or something like that to drain the fluid?

Answer
Just the drain cock on the lower corner of the radiator, passenger side, rear surface. Turn it just enough to start the draining process. Before you do anything though, start the engine and turn the heater setting to warm. Then shut off the engine. Then start the drain out process, leaving the cap on the radiator, and then remove the plug on the thermostat housing after a couple of quarts have been collected. Then close the drain cosk, open the radiator cap, and start refilling until the coolant rises into a reaches the top of the thermostat housing box. Then put in the plug and refill to top of radiator. Put on cap. Add coolant to overflow bottle max line. That will do it.
