Chrysler Repair: 00 Dodge Ram van 2500 PO433 code, dodge ram 2500, dodge ram van

Question
QUESTION: Dodge Ram 2500 van, 5.9 engine. After warming up and driving about 5 miles; the engine acts like it is starved for gas and runs very rough and I pull over and stop. Turn key off and wait a few minutes and the engine starts and I can drive again. Problem repeats every so often, and is very annoying. The only code I get is PO433. Where is the purge solenoid located (not in my manual)and what do I have to do to fix. thanks

ANSWER: Hi Henry,
As you didn't mention the year, I just chose the '06. In that year it was mounted on the side of the power distribution box under the hood. The circuit is powered by fuse 28, 20 amp, and the solenoid wire that brings that voltage is brought on a pink gray wire. The control wire goes to the engine controller on a dark blue/brown or dark blue/white wire depending upon which type of controller that you have. Either there is a problem with one of the two wires or the solenoid is defective. Let me know the year if not '06.

QUESTION: sorry, the year is 2000

Answer
The closest model year I have is '04 but it may apply. The same location is shown. The wiring is a dark blue/white from pin 20 and a dark blue/brown from pin 29 of the powertrain controller #3 plug.
I would check the ends of the vacuum hose, the continuity of the wires, and the continuity across the two terminals of the solenoid and if that proves out then replace it. I am not certrain that these wire colors would be correct for a '00 model so don't try tracing them to the plugs if they don't seem correct. This '04 is a combined engine/trans controller called an NGC (new generation controller) which may not have been available in '00. In any case if you find the solenoid, chect the continutiy and the vacuum line.
