Chrysler Repair: code p0700 and p0755, solenoid pack, volt ohm meter

Question
QUESTION: i have a 2007 pt cruiser with 2.4L engine and received the codes of p0700 and p0755. i was told i needed to replace the transmission control solenoid which i did and it still has the same codes. don't know where to go from here. any help would be appreciated.

ANSWER: Hi Michael,
Some possibilities are: the solenoid pack needs to be replaced (is that what you did, or do you mean you replaced the solenoid control  relay?). The 2/4 solenoid is part of the pack which I believe is not sold sepatately so most people replace the pack. It is fairly easy to do.
The other possibiiites are that the wiring between the trans control module and the 2/4 solenoid is either open/grounded/shorted to a voltage source or is intermittent. Finally the TCM itself may be bad.
So go through that list and do the things that don't cost much for parts, and let me know if you have a volt-ohm meter so I can give you the details about how to check the wiring for problems.
The solenoid pack is something you can replace yourself, as well. You just have to sort out which of these will fix the problem.
If you write back tell me what exactly you have done so far (control relay/solenoid pack/ or the 2/4 solenoid only).

QUESTION: I replaced the shift solenoid pack. I do have a ohm meter but just bought it and will be using for first time. I was also told to replace the auto trans speed sensors (in and out).

ANSWER: Hi Michael,
The 2/4 solenoid wire runs from the #4 black/green* 38-pin powertrain controller plug at pin 6 and goes to pin 8 of the solenoid pack plug, and is white in color. So check that you show 0 ohms between those pins of the two plugs, and that the wire is not connected to ground (infinite resistance between the wire and ground) when the pcm end is plugged in but you have the ignition off.
As a verification of the trans control relay output: Pin 4 at the solenoid pack should show 12v when it is all plugged together and the engine is running (put a pin in the red wire to get a test point and measure for voltage between the wire and any shiny metal surface on the body/engine/trans which would be a ground point.
Try shaking the wire harness while you make all these measurements to possibly detect a flaky connection along the wire or at the plugs.
I did not see any mention in the troubleshoot manual of the speed sensors being involved in the 0755 code, so you might want to not spend money for those.
If all those tests pass, then about the only thing remaining is the entire powertrain controller (combines the engine and the transmission controllers in one unit).
Is there any chance that this problem might still be covered under warranty?

*The plugs on the powertrain controller are all black on the outside but when you remove them you will see a color in the area of the actual sockets. Thus you are looking for the one that is green internally.
The 0700 is just corroborative that there is a specific fault code also in the memory.

QUESTION: tried to find the wires that you told me but could not locate. do you have pictures of where they can be found. looked for a manual at local auto parts but no one had book so i dont have anything to reference. auto parts also asked if i changed aut trans relay but could not tell me where it is located either. could that be problem that it still will not shift gears? thanks for the great advise so far.

Answer
Hi Michael,
As  I reveiwed the wiring again I noticed that by '06 the control relay was eliminated by the modernization of the power supply circuits, so there is nothing along that line to replace. Just check to see that you have 12v on the pin 4 of the solenoid pack plug as I described in my last answer.
There is only one plug on the solenoid pack with 8 pins and the pins are numbered or you can look at the wire colors. The other wire of interest, white, is on pin 8 at the pack. The powertrain controller is about midline in the engine compartment mounted on or very near the firewall. It has 4 multi-pin plugs as I described. I don't have a vehicle I can look at so that is the best I can tell from the manual. The plugs are usually lined up next to one another.
