Chrysler Repair: 2000 Chysler Cirrus 2.4, coolant temp, seat damage

Question
Roland,
I replaced the fuel filter again and it idled great with just a slight misfire (no code set) until it got hot (normal operating temps) then the ECM started pulling fuel away. disconnected each injector and when it can to #2 there was hardly any difference. We  sprayed around intake thinking a leak there, no change. I have the valve cover off and there is no marked discoloration. Again I am thinking cracked head. Your thoughts please this is looking like my worse nightmare this week.

Answer
Hi Bob,
Your last report was that the engine had been overheated, had a burnt valve in #2 and possibly valve seat damage also. If you took the head off then wouldn't you have found a crack in the head?
If the valve is repaired and the issue still appears to be #2, then have you checked the injector driver wire's continuity for that cylinder? If is connected to pin 17 of the pcm if this has got the earlier ecm (sbec which has a separate tcm).
I also would check for codes in case that might reveal the cause. Also because the problem begins when it warms up you might want to check the resistance across the coolant temp sensor when fully warmed, it should be 700 to 1000 ohms. If that were 'off' that might cause your apparent problem with mixture.
