Chrysler Repair: 2.5L 4-cylinder tbi: changing out injector/connecting rod cap shells?, connecting rod bearings, torx screw

Question
Hi Roland,

We are back with yet another car problem. This is for my dad

Connecting Rod Bearings
Does Bearing caps have shells or do you have to replace caps?
The cap that is off does not seem to have a shell. If there is a shell can it be melted out? it is badly worn

How does the Electrical connection for injector come apart?

Thanks again for your help

Answer
Hi Linda,
I checked the '88 parts catalog I own and find that there are indeed bearings (what you called "shells"?) sold for the connecting rods, located at the crank-end of the rods. They are available in 5 different thicknesses. The rod cap itself is not sold separately but rather in association with a replacement rod, so you may not need to replace the rod/cap unless the uneven wear test is failed. The manual shows the "plasti-gauge" method for determining the size of bearing that you would buy, and the specification for uneveness of wear.  Do you have this info? I believe this would all apply to a '92 engine.
On the injector, the cap on the top of the injector has the electrical connections. Remove the torx screw that holds the cap in place, Then using two screwdrivers gently lift the cap up via the slots provided at its edge on opposite sides, which will disconnect the injector electrical pins from the sockets inside the cap. You will see a hole in the side of the injector just below the mating surface of the cap/injector and use that to pry the injector up and out of the throttle body. Be sure the lower 0-ring comes with the injector.
Use a new lower o-ring, the upper is provided already in place, and use a new o-ring on the cap. But light coat of engine oil on o-rings. Place injector in body, aligning axis of connectors with screw hole, + contact nearest to hole. Place cap on injector mating locating lob of injector with locating notch of cap. Push down on cap to insure a good seal. Then rotate cap/injector to align with  attachment hole. Install torx screw, torque to 35-45 inch-pounds (3-4 foot-pounds).
