Chrysler Repair: 07 CRUISER HESITATION, tops car, bonnevile

Question
QUESTION: For the past couple of months my Cruiser idles rough and then hesitates a nd bogs down..almost stops...then it just goes.  Or it wil just happen while I am driving.  It throw NO codes.

ANSWER: Hi Penni,
That is unusual. Have you used a code reader to look, or just the ignition key? If not the former, then go to an Autozone parts store for a free readout.
There may be a sensor that is going bad, intermittently or not quite so bad as to set a code. You may just have to keep trying until a code comes up. If it can be predicted, then you could have a diagnostic tech look at all the operating parameters when it won't run well and hope to catch the cause 'in the act'. Otherwise, there is no part I can think of to suspect at this point.

QUESTION: Hi...

It is actually kind of scary...I never know when it is going to happen.  I had it check several months ago when it has done it a double of time...and their were no codes showing.  It didn't do it for a longtitme until just the past few weeks.

It's little "episodes" last many 10 seconds tops.  Car never dies or stops...I can pump it or floor it..makes no difference...it just starts going.

A tech here kept my car on three different days---drove it around with computer---or whatever attached---the episode never happened.  He says it has thrown no codes, so he has no idea what to do.  If this was an old 63 Bonnevile...I could try some things myself...but I don't have any idea what to do.

When it is bogging down...it has that weird "airy" sound like when someone puts their hand over a the top of a carb...you know what I mean?  It is just the weirdest thing...no one has been with me when it happenes yet..

Thx

Answer
Hi Penni,
If this were not so new I would have suggested that the egr valve were sticking ajar, but I checked the '06 manual and it doesn't use an egr any longer (and I am quite sure it wouldn't be in your '07).
My other experience of no start/poor running with no codes was when a MAP sensor became inaccurate, but not so severely as to set a code. That was detected with a diagnostic box that read out all the operating parameters and showed it was inaccurate (it said the car was at 10,000 feet altitude instead of near sea level). There a several other mixture related sensors so there is no point in throwing parts at it. Sooner or later it will stall and refuse to start and most likely the code will then appear.
