Chrysler Repair: 96 Sebring Convertible AC compressor on always, clutch control, compressor clutch

Question
Hi I have a 96 Sebring JXI, the AC control panel switch seems to be operating, fan works fine, but the AC compressor is on all the time. I think the problem has to be the panel switch, would you agree ?

Answer
Hi Bruce,
It could be the panel switch, but it also could be the compressor clutch control relay is stuck "on". Try switching it out with another relay in the power box under the hood. It is the 7th from the front and you could try the fog lamp or the wiper relays if they have the same part number as those are not necessary to start and run the car. If the relay proves to be ok, then the panel switch is a possibility, or the wire from pin 64 of the pcm to the rearmost pin of the relay socket could have a short to ground. So check that with the ignition 'off'.
After those possibilities are verified the panel switch is the next thing to check although if it were somethng other than that switch the compressor would operate even if you have the blower 'off'. So I guess that would be a tell-tale about the panel switch vs the other possibilities.
