Chrysler Repair: emergency brake adjustment: 07 300, 2007 chrysler 300, star wheel

Question
2007 Chrysler 300 V6 3.5 AUTO. I replaced my rear rotors, pads and parking shoes. Main brakes are fine but I can't seem to get the emergency brake to adjust. I have tried driving and stopping in reverse and no success.

Answer
Hi Dennis,
The shoes don't automatically adjust by stopping in reverse. You should notice a removable plug on the backing plate at the location of the parking brake adjuster (which is like the original drum brake shoe adjuster in the good old days, it appears to be at the 9 o'clock position on the right side, and probably the 3 o'clock on the left). That reveals a star wheel which you rotate with a lever adjuster tool: right wheel rotate star toward the front, left wheel rotate star toward the rear of the vehicle. Rotate until wheel is bound up by the shoes, then back off 6 clicks of the star wheel, check for free rotation. Do not back off more than 17 clicks. Do both sides, then put plugs back, lower vehicle and check out braking action. Interestingly there appears to be front parking brakes on the vehicle, which I was unaware of.
