Chrysler Repair: loud clicking noise coming from dash?, inner fender, 2006 chrysler 300

Question
QUESTION: Hello, I have a 2006 Chrysler 300 Limited. There is a loud clicking noise coming from my dash. It stops and starts intermittently. I suspect it is something to do with the air conditioning, although it is cooling at this point. It even continued to click this morning after turning the key off.

ANSWER: Hi Linda,
Can you possibly peek under the dash to see what it might look like?
My thought would be to go under the hood and open the power distribution box on the passenger's side of the compartment, on the inner fender in front of the large strut tower that is at the rear corner on that side. Try removing the fuses, one at a time and listen for the clicking to stop and if it doesn't put the fuse back in and try the next fuse, etc. until you find the fuse that stops the clicking. Then let me know the fuse # and we can go from there once we know which cicuit that fuse powers up.

QUESTION: Hi Roland-
Well, it's not clicking now. This is what is confusing. Sometimes, I can drive 10-15 minutes and nothing- others it can happen 2-3 times in a short timespan. I will go drive it now and see if it happens and try your suggestion and get back to you. When you say remove 1 fuse at a time- should the car be running or not? Thank you! Linda

Answer
Only do the fuse removing if the clicking is going on at the time. It would be easier to do it when you have the situation that occurred earlier this morning when it clicked when the key was off.
I have another idea. The clicking sound might be the power door locks trying to secure a door which is not closed tightly enough to activate the switch which tells the computer that the door is truly closed. So whenever it is clicking (if with the key off, or parked with the key on), try pushing in from outside (or pull in on the door if you are inside the car), trying that on all four doors to see if doing so stops the clicking. It might be the driver's door that needs to have its latch hook that is mounted in the door frame moved slightly inboard. It has a couple of screws which when loosened will allow you to move it. Move it slightly in, then tighten the screws.
