Chrysler Repair: high fuel consumption/ code 21:2.5 V-6, throttle position sensor, obd ii codes

Question
QUESTION: i have a chryslers cirrus 2.5 that has a code 24.27 how do you fix this. the car is using fuel, stumbling at idiling .

ANSWER: Hi James,
The 24 code says that the throttle position sensor voltage is too high or too low or doesn't agree with what would be expected based upon the MAP sensor. I would suggest that you go to the throttle body and locate the 3 wire connector that is at far end of the throttle axle from the lever and check out its wiring harness back to the main harness to be sure that none of the insulation on the wires is melted which would cause such a voltage flaw, and if that looks alright then remove the plug at the tps and measure the resistance between the center pin and each of the side pins as you slowly open and close the throttle, looking for discontinuities in that resistance reading which should vary smoothly over the entire range of motion. If you find discontinuities then remove the sensor and replace it.
On the 27 that says that one of the injectors doesn't seem to be electrically responding to its signal as would be expected. Because there are 6 injectors it would be helpful to know which one so you could check its wires more carefully in the same manner as described above and failing any problem being found, then consider replacing that specific injector. If you have an Autozone parts store near you then I would get a readout of the OBD-II codes that are also stored in the memory using the plug-in reader, which they will often do or free. That specific 4-digit number would say which of the 6 injectors is acting up. The 27 is an OBD-I code which you got with your ignition key, probably, and that is not specific as to which injector.
Let me know what codes you get and what you learn and we'll go from there.

QUESTION: hi,Roland sorry to have taken a while to get back to you.well it was the number one injector. that fix that problem but i have another problem am getting a code 21 now. so i replace both 02senors that didn't work. the car has a back firing sound sometime an a lose of power .an it's burning a lot of fuel. i had to go to higher octane to get the car to run a little better. so could you help me?

Answer
Hi James
Replacing the sensors is one response to a code 21, but in addition you need to verify that the 4 wires connected to each of them is patent. Here is what you need to verify:
The black wires on pins 4 of the plugs are attached to ground (shiny body metal, show 0 ohms or continuity)
The dark green/orange wires on the pins 3 have 12V on them when the engine is running (or verify continuity between the pins and pin 6 of the pcm).
The black/light blue wires on pins 1 of the plugs are connected to pin 43 of the pcm
The upstream sensor signal wire (black/dark green) on pin 2 is attached to pin 30 of the pcm
The downstream sensor signal wire (tan/white) on pin 2 is attached to pin 51 of the pcm
The code says there is something wrong with the signals from the sensors which could be the sensors are bad OR the wiring is bad. The problems you are having are consistent with this code. Now find out why.
