Chrysler Repair: front brakes scrubbing noise, rubber brake hose, silicone grease

Question
QUESTION: I have a 98 Durango.  I have changed both calipers, rotors, and pads, but it still scrubs when I am cruising around 5 to 8 mph.  If I put slight pressure on the brakes it stops, but when i let go it starts again.  Any ideas???

ANSWER: Hi Jeff,
The two possibilities I know of are that the caliper pins (which the calipers slide upon laterally) may be roughened and should be replaced and given a light coat of silicone grease, or that the rubber brake hose that runs between the caliper and the chassis metal brake line is dried out and fragmented in the center lumen such that the release of brake fluid pressure when you release the pedal is impeded. Usually the latter causes dragging, so the former is possibly a better bet. You can get a new pins at a parts store for under $10 and install them.

QUESTION: I am some what mechanically enclined.  How hard is it to change the rubber hose that runs between the calipers and the chassis metal brake line?

Answer
Hi Jeff,
It is threaded at each end and the only extra is that you have to bleed the air out of the caliper bleed fitting to get the air out of the new line. I believe that the end that attaches to the metal brake line will have a nut that spins off while the end at the caliper will have to be twisted off (which also rotates the hose) so start at the metal line connection first. But my first thought is the pins may be a more likely cause than that hose, unless the brake is dragging fairly much.
