Chrysler Repair: 2004 Chrysler Sebring Transmission - Limp, 2004 chrysler sebring, chrysler sebring

Question
I have a 2004 Chrysler Sebring,  2.4 engine (X), sedan.  The transmission has gone into limp mode.  I changed the transmission fluid and filter after the limp mode to see if that would help.  Still there.  Codes P0731, P0870 and P0700 register.  If I take it out of limp mode (negative battery terminal disconnect)  shifts once or twice then goes back into limp mode.

Answer
Hi Shields,
The 0700 is a generic saying there are other trans codes noted. The O731 is a speed ratio error code in 1st gear and is probably the result of the last code, the 0870.
The 0870 says there is a problem with the Overdrive pressure switch not closing when it is tested. It might be an unreliable control relay or circuit so you could try switching that relay with one of the same part number to see if that corrects it.
The pressure switch 'sense' circuit could be open, shorted to ground, or shorted to voltage. It is also possible that the valve body or solenoid/pressure switch assembly is in need of repair or replacement, which can be determined by a test using a Miller transmission simulator tool to differentiate those possibilities.
You can test the sense circuit: the solenoid is connected between  pin 6 of the switch assembly plug and pin 60 of the tcm, while the switch itself is connected between pin 3 and pin 9 of the same pair of plugs. It that shows no problems then it is suggested to remove the valve body and clean/repair, and if that doesn't do it then change the solenoid/pressure switch assembly. However, the latter can be replaced without dropping the pan and disassembling internal parts, so the externallly mounted assembly replacement would be something to do yourself with reasonable chance of success while the valve body r&r is more of a challenge.
Sorry I can't tell you exactly what is wrong/what to do, but this is a starting point.
